The London musician Rollo Doherty, release his knockout debut record titled Out My Window
Rollo Doherty is best known as the frontman of the alternative indie rock band ISLAND, which has amassed over 50 million streams on Spotify and toured extensively across the UK, EU, and US. The band gained wider recognition when their track Do You Remember The Times was featured on the FIFA 2022 soundtrack. After two years of silence from the group, it came as an exciting and unexpected surprise earlier this year when the announcement of Rollo’s solo project was beginning, along with ISLAND’s eventual return.
Out My Window is an 8 track EP that hypnotically blends well crafted melodies with beautifully poetic lyrics
Its 24-minute duration serves as a metaphor for a single day, with each minute representing an hour. Inspired by Rollo’s view from his bedroom window, the album incorporates ambient soundscapes captured on his handheld mic, recorded directly from his flat window. What began as a modest project grew into a collaborative piece, bringing together UK and US music industry professionals. The result is an immersive soundscape that reflects the thoughtful care and artistry of its creation.
The opening track, Intro (Out My Window), creates an instant sense of tranquil entrancement, inviting listeners to embark on the EP’s journey, much like drawing back the curtains to welcome a new day. Its delightful melody and dreamlike lyrics set the tone for the rest of the album. The following track, Venus On A Flower, captivates with its gripping synths and vibey violin, described as “a love letter to lazy bedroom days, born on lazy sunny evenings.”
The enthralling second single, Papaya, follows, along with the debut single, It’s All Beautiful Rain (review – here). Next is the gentle and lulling Little Bird, featuring Marina B, and then the third single, The Sun Goes Down Behind Your House (review – here).
The penultimate track, Someone’s Gonna Break My Little Heart Tonight, carries a sense of wistfulness and stands out as the most reflective piece on Out My Window. Born from a place of loneliness, it captures those moments when the world feels unflinchingly direct and filled with sorrow. This is followed by the Outro (Beautiful Rain, Part 2), which echoes the album’s opening, seamlessly transitioning us into a hip-hop-infused melodic bop—as if drawing back the curtains to welcome a new day and begin the cycle afresh.
You can catch Rollo Doherty in various UK cities supporting Skinshape on tour next month
