SINGLE: ‘HOMESICK’ – THE ACADEMIC

Irish born and bred, indie-rock band, The Academic recently announced the exciting news of a second album which is due to make its worldwide presence on the 10th of February 2023 and up to now, we’ve had the pleasure of three single prevailings from the upcoming album – ‘Sitting Pretty’.

The third of the teaser tracks thus far is a song called ‘Homesick’ and one that swiftly has us hooked and ready to take aboard an immersively lulling journey. As the strumming of guitar from Matt Murtagh and Craig Fitzgerald soon transpires, the insertion of the hypnotically lead indie vocals from upfront singer and guitarist, Fitzgerald, emits an extra mesmerising touch to the initial vibe of the track. The pre-chorus then sees the melodic development become more established as the addition of drums and bass, performed by Dean Gavin and Stephen Murtagh paves the way for the kick of the chorus. A track that already has a deeply engaging quality within, only becomes more noticeable as the chorus erupts so does the prompt desire to bop one’s head along to the infectiously beatific and captivatingly memorable tune. The lyrics of – “It’s just the way that life is at the moment. It’s just the cards that you picked out.” are ones that I particularly enjoy listening to and have contently had on repeat in my mind.

Alongside the news of ‘Sitting Pretty’, the group have also joyfully shared that they’ll be heading out on the road in various locations around the UK and Europe at the beginning of next year, before hitting the States in April.
