SINGLE: ‘GOODBYE’ – MEADOWLARK

Recently Meadowlark wowed us with their latest release, ‘Goodbye’; a song that whilst containing a message of saying farewell and embracing the notions of having every intention of starting the new year with welcomed new habits, also acknowledges the probable fact of one day most likely saying “hello” to them again. “The reality is I probably need to say hello instead of goodbye. To accommodate and re-adjust. To find a balance. So, maybe this is goodbye to resistance.” Daniel Broadley of the group shared with us on instagram. “… So I say goodbye to these things, hoping of course that I learn to live happily without them, but understanding also that the farewell process isn’t a linear or easy one. are words his band mate, Kate McGill had to say. The notes of meaning instantly brought a relatable connection my way. Afterall, who hasn’t failed to turn those ‘New Year resolutions’ into reality? Maybe we could all benefit from realising the value of self love. Life’s a rollercoaster, things come and they go, habits hit their peak and then before you know it, there’s another that has every possibility of taking its place. That’s the significance I took from the track in hopes of gaining a little more inner peace for the New Year.

The Bristol formed duo had my hype flowing of late when they decided to delete all their former instagram posts. I knew then, something exciting was brewing. ‘Goodbye’ oozes the melodically magnificent Meadowlark magic that the pairing so finely brings to the table. McGill’s distinctive and ethereal vocals initiate the number with a soft harmonic plucking of guitar strings to go in hand, before progressing to the chorus that shares the usage of drums and piano. The entire track forms an endearing tranquilness with deeper connotations that coincide.
Here’s hoping this is only the beginning of what Meadowlark has to offer us this 2023. I’m personally crossing my fingers for some live dates.
