This December’s Song of the Month goes to none other than the Welsh singer-songwriter, Hannah Grace. The track ‘Just ‘Cause it’s Christmas (Always Been a Dreamer)’ was released mid-end of November 2022 and since the moment I first heard it, I knew it was highly likely to be a song I’d be playing many times in the days leading up until Christmas. Just like the way your favourite jumper fits so snuggly and warm on a cold winter’s day, this magically merry melody was, from first listen, always going to be the apt choice to have as this festive month’s SOTM feature.
As a general rule I’m not the biggest fan of Christmas music. Whether it’s due to the high expectations, the very much over-played same annual anthems or the overall cheesiness factor, they’re not usually songs I find myself having much of a passion towards. I can wholeheartedly say that ‘Just ‘Cause it’s Christmas (Always Been a Dreamer)’ is an exception to that. Grace’s exquisitely angelic vocals work mesmerically in company with the wholesomeness of the lyrics throughout. My particular favourite line being when the chorus commences and Grace divinely sings “Oh this year I mean it, I’m really gonna feel it. Let’s dance ’til the darkness just ‘cause it’s Christmas.” and the stunningly played piano, as well as the usage of strings only adds an extra transfixing touch to the track that so joyfully spreads such pure and dreamlike spirits.
