Gabrielle Aplin is an English singer-songwriter who, alongside having three melodically distinct albums out in the world, also founded her own independent record label; ‘Never Fade Records’ as a self-sufficient way of publicising her own music, by the age of eighteen. In 2012, Aplin’s stunningly sweet-sounding singing voice became heard by many when she flourishingly covered ‘Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s – The Power Of Love’ as the soundtrack to the John Lewis Christmas advert. Since then, Aplin’s gone on to share numerous revelations of her own music, showing off her highly capable skills of being greatly assorted in the genres she plays, ranging from acoustic folk, to indie rock, synthpop and more.
‘Don’t Say’ is Aplin’s latest deliverance and a track from her upcoming fourth album; ‘Phosphorescent’ and like many of her recent releases, is one that reveals the rousing energy of Aplin’s accrescent synthpop side. The commencing of the song radiates an enchantingly mellifluous dreaminess that soon fruitions into a deeper lulling of a rhythmic enthusiasm, creating an initial and strong desire of moving one’s body along to the beat. With each further listen of the track, the more delight I take from it. Especially as the chorus hits and Aplin’s exquisitely harmonic vocals shine through. ‘Don’t Say’ is an enlightening number with an inner rawness behind, conveyed to us with an extremely appealing and buoyant flair.
The new year is already established to bring exciting things from Aplin, with her brand new album ‘Phosphorescent’ available to hear from January 13th and a UK instore signing tour to happen in the days previous to. We’re very excited to see the next steps from Aplin so please do watch this space for future reviews if you are also.
